GRANT AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT
Mark Walker received a phone call from US Congressman Mike Honda notifying UWSV that AEC’s application to the US Department of Health and Human Services for a $300,000 grant under the Communities Empowering Youth Program has been funded starting September 29, 2006. UWSV is the lead agency on the grant and will work with AEC partners Catholic Charities, California Youth Outreach, Community Crime Prevention Associates and CompassPoint to build the organizational capacity of community and faith-based organizations to help reduce gang involvement by youth in the greater San Jose area.

“STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT GRANT INITIATIVE’S SECOND LEARNING INSTITUTE”
The “Strategic Assessment Grant Initiative’s Second Learning Institute,” being sponsored by The Struggling Students/Out-of-School Youth Workgroup of the Youth Transition Funders’ Group (YTFG) and Jobs for the Future (JFF),will be held in New York City in mid-November. Seven cities are participating and San Jose’s AEC is sending a 15-member team. We will report back to AEC members on what we learn and opportunities that are identified.
