From: The Greater San Jose Alternative Education Collaborative (AEC)

The Greater San Jose Alternative Education Collaborative (AEC) is providing an opportunity for teachers in alternative education to gain assistance with classroom excellence through our 2007 Teach for Excellence Mini-Grant Program. Teachers of students in grades 6 through 12 can develop creative classroom projects that promote student engagement in learning by obtaining mini-grants of up to $500. This program is made possible through a grant funded by the Youth Transitions Funders Group (YTFG).

Applications are being sent to the principals of schools previously identified as offering alternative education programs; however, teachers from new schools or programs and charter schools of this nature are eligible to apply.

An evaluation committee comprised of AEC members will review the applications. Deadline for the 2007 Teach for Excellence Mini-Grant Application is January 19, 2007. Both the Application and the Principal Approval form must be received by this date. Awardees will be notified on February 2, 2007. Disbursement of mini-grants will be mailed to the appropriate school districts on February 9, 2007.

All Teacher Awardees will have their projects featured on AEC's website and E-Newsletter (www.aecnews.org). This year, an additional $50 Assessment Bonus is available to Teacher Awardees who submit a final assessment on their projects. Deadline for this Assessment Bonus is April 27, 2007. Bonuses will be delivered during our 2007 Teach for Excellence End-of-Year Reception where teachers will be invited to present their projects and celebrate each other's achievements. The reception date will be announced at a later time.
